The Treasures of Sarawak

These three (brothers and sister) live very close to the Church and as soon as they see the door open, they appear. This night, while I was teaching piano, they sat by John and he was getting them to locate "words" in the Bible, like mother, father, and others to help the younger ones recognize English words. They loved it.

They bring us little notes and "packages" tied with electrical tape. One night, Nankai, the youngest, gave me a thoroughly used plastic file folder. Sometimes it's a piece of candy.

Brindin, the oldest, "shepherds" the group. He is always patient and kind to his brother and sister and they are always together. Nankai is a devoted tease. John taught him the "look at the ceiling while I flip your Adam's apple" trick. He thinks that that is the funniest thing.

Brindin could charm the socks off a snake, and that is even before he smiles! With his smile, he could conquer the world! He speaks very good English. He is the one who after seeing the film "Legacy," he said he would dream of sleeping in a covered wagon, and that he would go the Salt Lake Temple when he was a missionary! He will do both.

They have absolutely stolen our hearts. Brindin is my piano student. When I am at the church, he will come over and practice and practice until it is time to close the doors! He has had only 6 lessons! The two little ones taught me the rock game, Serambun. Beatrice, I call the most beautiful little girl in Malaysia.

They have an older brother, Lucas, who is a dynamo. He can teach Seminary, teach with the missionaries, speak in Church, act as a translator, and anything else you need! He is all of 16!

These are among the choicest of the choice... They will be great leaders to their people. We are privileged to know them. Is it any wonder that the Lord is seeking in the four corners of the earth for THESE TREASURES?

But let me tell you, "If YOU ever have a REALLY, REALLY, BAD hair day...  Things usually have to get better..."

Especially, if you're with your DAD...

The Harvest and The Harvesters

"God has set a course for each one of us that can polish and perfect us to be with him."  Henry B. Eyring

As we came to Bintulu, we felt that we had brought with us certain abilities to share...

We had been told that "the field was whlte, already to harvest"..   Right?  So we did  indeed thrust in our "sickle" and began our work...

Somewhat to our surprise, the harvest yielded a "fruit" unexpected...

A great change has taken place in us; ...and and we have discovered that what we are now is better than what we came with.

We have become the "fruit"; the people "The Harvesters"  They have"pruned and digged, and trimmed as needed" they have worked on our hearts and our understanding...

They are genuine, unaffected, sincere...

Delacruz:  suffering from chickungunya, a disease from mosquitos that affects the joints and bones

They are trusting and believing...  Carlos:  also sick; wanted Elder McKellar to give him a blessing...

Daisy and beautiful Ferasyella.  Is it any wonder that they have "wrought a change in us ?"

Empiah:  Mother and Grandmother

"Behold O Lord, their souls are precious, and they are our brethren..."  Alma 31:5

God sent us to the poor and humble; and.... they have responded by teaching and refining us!

"This is my joy and my thanksgiving..."   Alma 26:37

God always fulfills his promises!
"He will bless you in good measure, pressed down, ...shaken together, and running over!"  Luke 6:38

"He will strengthen you and finish your faith..."

God has set a course that can polish and perfect us...
With love, from the South China Sea...
