Visiting the Sisters

Come with me.  Today we are going to Kampong Babi (Pig).  We begin as this little group who just got off the back of that blue truck.

We must first walk by an enormous pile of garbage that will never be carried away.  But, we just shoulder our bags and a fresh chicken and walk into the kampong as there are no roads...  There are no roads.

On the way, we will pass the "canteen."  Very crude, makeshift tables or ledges where we can purchase some fresh for supper.  What would you like?  Fresh fish?  The flies are brushed off regularly...  Gourds?  Pumpkin?  Pineapple?  Mushrooms?  Worms?  This lady will sell you her greens just gathered from the jungle.

We begin our visit with a boardwalk!  I am definitely taking you via the "front path."

Please remove your shoes and we will walk up the steps to Riti's house.

She has a treat for us!  She has just finished deep fat frying these.  She is storing them in a very large used oil can.  She calls them "snakes."  Don't be squeamish...  They are actually made out of some kind of tapioca flour.

We were served the "snakes" with a drink similar to kool aid.

On to Judy's house...  We have many stops to make today.

Along the way we see many ideas for house construction.

You will like Judy.  She loves to sew by hand.  Each time we visit, she has made more blocks.

She has been making this quilt for 2 years.  It is tiny hexagons hand sewn with very fine stitches.  The tiny pieces fit perfectly.

She is so happy to show you her talent and have you appreciate her work.

The pattern would be similar to what we call Grandmother's Flower Garden.

Salamat Malam (good-bye) Judy.  She will see you out on the front porch.

...And I say unto you, do not suppose that is all; for after ye have done all these things, if ye turn away the needy, and the naked, and visit not the sick and afflicted, and impart of your substance to those who stand in need -- I say unto you, your prayer is in vain, and availeth you nothing."  Alma 34:28

We will wait here a few minutes at the "bus stop" until Elder McKellar comes by to pick us up.
